Market Square Bad Lippspringe

Parallel to the State Garden Show 2017, parts of the public spaces of the town centre of Bad Lippspringe were redesigned. Integration of the Jordan River, which rises directly in the surrounding area, represented a major opportunity for the redesign of the market square.

The flowing ribbons of the watercourses in Bad Lippspringe serve as atmospheric inspiration and become a creative principle for the design. Striking, flat bands of slab reflect the curves of the waterways: the Jordan is swirled around, similar to eddies of water. The topography, ribbons and position of the trees divide the square naturally into areas for the lingering experience with water, a southern zone for gastronomy and commerce, and a seamless central zone for passing through as well as for flexible uses. A uniform surface covering of non-directional concrete block paving lends the square a coherent appearance. A double row of trees connects to Arminius Park and the open spaces along the Dammstrasse.
