The market square was redesigned to coincide with the 2017 State Garden Show. Integrating the River Jordan, which rises in the immediate vicinity, represented one of the site’s greatest potentials. The square was extended down to the riverbank via a gently sloping topography. Sparsely planted willow trees provide welcome shade for visitors to the riverside area. The upper level of the square is enlivened by three water features at the same level and is designed to be used flexibly for events and celebrations. A row of elm trees flanking the square strengthens the connection to Arminius Park to the north. A nuanced concrete paving, laid in a random pattern, forms the uniform surface of the square. The market square was completed in November 2015. In 2024, measures to adapt to climate change and expand the range of uses on the market square were planned and implemented. These were completed in spring 2025.
