Lido and Thaler Area, Hard/Austria

The Austrian market town of Hard features the largest marina on Lake Constance. The open spaces of the Hard inland basin are to be comprehensively upgraded. A design concept characterised by open spaces is to be developed for the area of the harbour, the promenades and the lido peninsula, and the lido, a lakeside restaurant and the yacht club are to be constructed. The design is based on the interpretation of the harbour basin as a sequence of independent open spaces with various atmospheres and characteristic edges. This variance is emphasised by precise open space planning interventions along the shoreline. The new harbour promenade, the harbour square and the new lido building underline the urban-maritime character of the shoreline at Zollhafen. An expansive harbour square stretches between the inland basin, the customs harbour and the marina and the new lido building forms the northern end of the square. This is planned as a powerful solitary element on the square and houses the lake restaurant and lido entrance. This combined use creates year-round utilisation of the harbour square.
