Open spaces Binningerstrasse, Allschwil

The central green space along the Binningerstrasse and Lettenplatz together form an essential part of the urban development at the eastern entrance to Allschwil. Situated on the site of the old brickworks, on the tram and road connection between Basel and Allschwil, the high proportion of greenery on the two areas to be designed creates a characteristic image ‘en passant’ characterised by the vegetative density. A multi-faceted open space is being created on the approx. 350 metre long central green space. A layer of trees and shrubs creates open and closed situations. Both buildings on the site are held together by a high-quality square carpet made of characteristic yellow clinker brick. Multi-stem magnolias cover the square and the large bench. A small fountain provides an acoustic counterbalance to the traffic and offers the opportunity to cool off on hot days.
