Based on the urban development vision and the design from the open, two-stage implementation competition held in 2022, the public space of the Rote Saite Nord is being designed in a holistic yet nuanced manner. A uniform granite paving surface is planned along the entire length of the urban space in the northern part of Seestadt: level and accessible to all, robust and designed to age gracefully. Three urban spaces are being developed as locations with a particularly strong sense of identity: Nelson Mandela Square, the Co-creative Mile and Zaha Hadid Square. They offer a variety of complementary amenities and stimulate a diverse urban life.

As an urban, mixed-use shopping street open to all, the Co-creative Mile forms a key component of Seestadt’s urban development. The tram tracks will be integrated using the same material. The urban space is designed to be climate-adapted through a high proportion of ground-level greenery and approximately 125 trees. A large proportion of the rainwater collected will be channelled into the ‘sponge city’ infrastructure. Implementation is expected to begin in 2030.
