Garden show Duderstadt 2030
The history and layout of Duderstadt are closely intertwined with the narrow but almost ‘ubiquitous’ streams (and rivers). The waters of the Brehme, Hahle and Sandwasser, together with the tree-lined town rampart and the extensive gardens and meadows in front of the historic town walls, form the starting point for the design considerations for the town park and for the 2030 Garden Show …
The atmospheres of the various sub-areas are derived from the existing landscape. The shady, steep rampart; the flowering gardens behind the picket fence; the wet meadows and the banks of the Sandwasser… These diverse and contrasting sub-spaces come together as a nuanced blue-green overall picture, entering into dialogue with the distinctive, warm, reddish glow of the old town and St Cyriakus. Reorganised pathways and precise connections allow the various parts of the park to be experienced as a coherent sequence of spaces. Different uses and activities find their place, perfectly embedded within specific vegetation patterns and the context of the town’s history and future. History meets ecology, sport meets children’s play, and relaxation meets convivial celebrations in the town park. Duderstadt’s history intertwines with the traces of future uses. Active, vibrant spaces and extensive, nature-oriented areas come together here. Short and long walks, play, sport and wild meadows. Wet feet, hot sun and cooling shade.
