Everyday life

There are many reasons why everyday spaces are so important: around 90 per cent of public spaces are ‘everyday’. We spend around 90 per cent of our time in ‘everyday’ spaces. No landscape architects were involved in the design of around 90 per cent of these spaces. Over a period of 24 days, around 35 people from the FRL team produced approximately 800 analogue photographs – these depict the everyday public spaces in which we move about and meet – in Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Hamburg, Basel, Budapest, Cologne… The collection includes everyday places and found objects, situations and moments, as well as our own and others’ landscape architecture projects for public open spaces. Each image has been dated, mapped and given a title. Even though not all the images have been developed, the moments remain preserved, albeit out of focus. How do we move through the city in our everyday lives.
